UN-BACKED GOVT. CLAIMS FULL CONTROL OF TRIPOLI 


Libya government said it was back in full control of Tripoli and its suburbs, capping a string of victories against eastern strongman Khalifa Haftar and vowing to take the whole country

The announcement came after GNA forces retook the Tripoli International Airport

Libya: Libya became independent as a kingdom in 1951

Libya is bound to the north by the Mediterranean Sea, the west by Tunisia and Algeria, the southwest by Niger, the south by Chad, the southeast by Sudan, and the east by Egypt.

Two authorities initially claimed to govern Libya: After UN-led peace talks between the Tobruk and Tripoli governments, a unified interim UN-backed Government of National Accord was established in 2015 

In 2017, Libya signed the UN treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
