BANGLADESH IN TRADE
China has announced
tariff exemption for 97 % of exports from Bangladesh
Beijing ‘s decision
came a month after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Xi Jinping
discussed enhancing bilateral relation
“As part of our
economic diplomacy, Bangladesh had written to China to exempt our export items
from tariffs. In response to this China’s State Council Tariff Commission has
issued a notification recently. Bangladesh in among the Least Developed
Countries (LDCs) and that is why this decision was taken by China”
Emerge as a possible
beneficiary alongside Vietnam and Chile of the U.S. – China trade war
“Bangladesh already receives tariff –
exemption for 3, 095 items under the Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA)
As a result of the
latest announcement, a total of 8,256 goods from Bangladesh will be exempted of
Chinese tariffs

has an embassy in Beijing and
consulates in Hong Kong and Kunming. China
has an embassy in Dhaka
According to Chinese government designations, Bangladesh and China are
"strategic partnership of cooperation"
China and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations in January 1976
By the mid-1980s, China had forged close military, commercial and
cultural ties with Bangladesh and also supplied it with military aid and
equipment
Bangladesh-China friendship bridge was constructed and inaugurated over
river Buriganga connecting Dhaka and Munshiganj by the
Chinese
On 4 October 2000, the Government of Bangladesh issued a postal stamp
marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Bangladesh-China
diplomatic relations
In 2002, the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao made an
official visit to Bangladesh and both countries declared 2005 as the "Bangladesh-China
Friendship Year"
According to Chinese government designations, Bangladesh and China are

Bangladesh is third largest trade partner
of China in South Asia
Under the auspices of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Agreement (AFTA),
China removed tariff barriers
to 84 types of commodities imported from Bangladesh
China's imports raw materials from Bangladesh like leather, cotton
textiles, fish, etc. China's major exports to Bangladesh include textiles,
machinery and electronic products, cement, fertiliser, tyre, raw silk, maize,
etc.
Bangladesh depend on Chinese military supplies
Both countries are members of the BCIM Forum
(Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Forum for Regional Cooperation).
